General Description
The Farmhand team is made up of people who find reward in physically exertive outdoor labor. Farmhands must be team oriented with the ability to complete work assignments in a fast-paced, high-quality manner. The duties vary on the farm throughout the growing season; however, when practical, farmhands will have the opportunity to specialize in specific job duties.
Basic Job Duties
- Load manure, fertilizer, lime and cover crops into spreaders and accurately spread onto field
- Operate cultivators to incorporate amendments and prepare seed beds
- Operate hole dibbler implement to ensure accurate plant spacing
- Break garlic bulbs into cloves using machine by variety
- Transport trays of cloves and other plants into the field, planting according to planting charts
- Operate tine harrow and compactor to ensure good seed to soil contact
- Spread mulch evenly over expose areas of garden before winter’s frost
- Organize, clean and sanitize all work production areas and equipment as required
Please note this is not an exhaustive list of all job duties. For workers with sufficient ability and interest level, the work may also include construction and fabrication activities, the maintenance of buildings and equipment, the operation of heavy machinery, participation in retail and culinary operations, as well as supervisory and/or managerial duties for additional pay.
